Ellie's story was featured as part of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month that is now in its' 25th year. Unfortunately, very few people see these stories because they're buried on websites that are not part of the mainstream. They ARE stories that matter.
Everybody know somebody. Addiction is a medical disease, yet we're still compelled to treat it like some kind of human weakness or character flaw.
I hope in my lifetime, something happens that allows us to treat all addictions openly. It will make it easier to encourage people to get help, and more comfortable to expresfreely support the ones who find it.
