ideas on how to assess problems, tips for creating collaboration and specific action steps to accomplish your

Types of Training Available:
Community Mobilization to Reduce Alcohol Problems
Community Mobilization training will help you understand how to assess and take action on alcohol issues to
create sustainable change. Participants will learn how to:
• Conduct a community assessment.
• Use local data to frame issues.
• Develop an action plan.
• Form collaborations with key stakeholders and community members.
• Get their message out on a limited budget.
• Evaluate their efforts and create sustainable change.
Environmental strategies, such as compliance checks, keg registration and social host ordinances will also be
touched on as ways to reduce youth access to alcohol and underage drinking. FACE will work with you to make
sure your training fits the needs of your group, so you get the most from your training experience.

A Fork in the Road Training
Implementing Environmental Strategies to Reduce Youth Access to Alcohol and Underage Drinking
Highlighting findings from the National Academy of Sciences/Institutes of Medicine report on youth access and
underage drinking, this “hands on” training tool will help you identify and prioritize underage drinking problems
in your community. It teaches participants how to implement “

and PowerPoint presentation to meet a variety of audience needs. This is a great way to educate and engage
your coalition on a limited budget.

How much does training cost?
The cost of training depends on a number of factors, such as the training topic, your location, number of days
of travel, group size, number of trainers and handouts/tools. Call

How many people do you train at one time?
Ideal group size for Community Mobilization Training is 20-30 adults.
How long are the trainings?
Community Mobilization Training is done in one day, from 9am-4pm. Time is factored in for lunch and breaks.
On-site lunch is preferred to efficiently maintain the schedule.
Who conducts the training?
Penny Norton, the Director and CEO of FACE, conducts most of the trainings. We also have a team of training
consultants that have unique skills and specialize in different training areas. We send the best person or team to
fit your needs.
How far will you travel to conduct training?
We will come to any location in the U.S., but location and accessibility do impact the cost of the training.
What types of handouts/tools are used in training?
Handouts and tools will vary depending on the type of training. Trainings for adults may consist of several
handouts including surveys, reports and workbooks, as well as interactive activities. Youth training handouts
are limited, as they generally respond better to “hands on” activities.
Sponsoring organization is responsible for the following:
• The training location and costs associated with the facility
• Any snacks, meals, beverages, etc. for participants
• Marketing and promotion of the training (we can provide information on what the training covers for
marketing purposes)
• Transportation for participants
• Activities for youth beyond the training
• Release forms for youth participants

Penny Norton is the founder and CEO of FACE. For the past 26 years, she
has challenged and inspired audiences across the country with her candor
and conviction. She has served as a tireless advocate who supports changes
in policies, practices and conditions that contribute to alcohol problems and is
able to identify realistic ways to make change happen. Penny is a nationally
recognized speaker on alcohol policy and related topics. She is the recipient
of the Dr. John D. Slade Memorial Award for Advocacy on Alcohol Issues.
