The American Drinking Pattern.
from colonial
days to modern times tends to be one of cycles. Following a dry period from 1920-1933,
alcohol consumption steadily increased until it peaked at 2.76 gallons per capita in 1980.
By 1990, a new temperance wave had set in, dropping per capita consumption to 2.22 gallons
by 2000. However, since then it has increased, apparently ushering in a new era of increased
drinking.
