The American Drinking Pattern.
from colonial
days to modern times tends to be one of cycles. Following a dry period from 1920-1933,
alcohol consumption steadily increased until it peaked at 2.76 gallons per capita in 1980.
By 1990, a new temperance wave had set in, dropping per capita consumption to 2.22 gallons
by 2000. However, since then it has increased, apparently ushering in a new era of increased
drinking.

Do You Sometimes Drink Too Much?.
Gallup asked
the 63 percent of adult Americans who admit to drinking beer, wine or liquor from time to
time if they occasionally over imbibe - and you might be surprised at the answers given by
young, middle-aged and older adults. Gallup pollsters also asked about drinking-related
family problems.

 Wine is Now the Alcoholic Beverage of Choice. among drinkers,
but malt liquor is emerging as an upscale alternative in chic West Coast bistros.
Traditionally regarded as a staple in 40-ounce bottles, purchased mostly by inner-city
alcoholics and problem drinkers, upscale restaurants have begun to serve it to customers
in ice-filled champagne buckets. |
