FACE is proud to be the distributor of the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY) at Georgetown University's Summary Brochures. Funded by The PEW Charitable Trusts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, CAMY monitored the marketing practices of the alcohol industry from 2001 to 2007 to focus attention and action on industry practices that jeopardize the health and safety of America's youth.
CAMY recognized that reducing high rates of underage alcohol consumption and the suffering caused by alcohol-related injuries and deaths among young people requires using the public health strategies of limiting the access to and the appeal of alcohol to underage persons. CAMY's research repeatedly documented that a substantial portion of alcohol advertising is placed where youth are more likely per capita to see, hear or read it than adults age 21 and above.
CAMY's work contributed to stronger self-regulation on the part of alcohol companies, new state and local restrictions on alcohol marketing, and a higher level of scrutiny of industry practices from state and federal officials.
